B & B Northwest: Myrna Oakly, travel writer
Staying in Southern Oregon is an incredible experience,
which everyone should have at least once in a lifetime.
Under the Greenwood Tree is a gentlemen's farm where luxury prevails. The
decor and furnishings are first class, and no measure of comfort has been spared. |

Sometimes all it takes to refresh us-mind, body, and
soul-is the gentle slowing of our fast paced lives.
And
nowhere is life more leisurely than at a rare bed-and-breakfast in southern Oregon.
From the moment you
pull into the circular drive at "Under the Greenwood Tree,"
life
comes to a standstill.
Ten acres of garden spread out beneath a
forest of 300-year-old oaks, black walnuts, maples, apples and
cedars. An acre of grass envelops you, slowing your
heart rate to the posted speed limit of one mile per hour,
while twin hammocks promise to
rock you to sleep.
Stroll behind the 125 year-old farmhouse, and your will be transported back
in time to simpler days. Here,
beautifully hand-hewn and hand-pegged Civil War farm
buildings dot the remains of the 238 acres, first deeded
to the Walz family in 1861.
Beyond a rich history, what makes "Under the Greenwood Tree" truly unique is
The innkeeper's devotion to caring & cooking for people.
Back at the house, a redwood deck invites you indoors, where four bedrooms
with private baths cushion
guests from the outside world. Impeccably decorated,
the rooms are at once voluptuous and smart
Walz family photos, Tibetan rugs, men's
britches, and lacy women's bloomers adorn the walls, while warm
antique furnishings
and fresh flowers serve to lull the quests into heavenly repose.
By morning, you may find yourself eager to chase the aromas emanating from
our kitchen.
A full country gourmet Breakfast awaits you.
All told, "Under the Greenwood Tree" offers an experience as
lyrical as the song in
William Shakespeare's "As You Like It," from which it takes it's name. |
